Red Sky Gallery's June Featured Artist exhibition spotlights Nancy Romanovsky's oil landscapes. Inspired by the vast western landscapes, Romanovsky's paintings delve into the intricate beauty of forests, the trees that form them, and the rivers that feed them. Her work captures the ephemeral quality of light as it dances across the landscape, the luminous oils breathe warmth and radiance into every corner of her paintings.
Among the showcased pieces are scenes captured at Nancy’s Douglas-fir tree farm near Montesano, Washington, including the peaceful and mysterious views of the western fork of the Satsop River. Situated at the base of the Olympic Peninsula, this rainforest land, rich with ancient fossils and steeped in the history of the Satsop tribe, holds a mystique that includes the exact place where the legendary Wild Man of Wynoochee had his adventurous reclusion. The essence of the forest and river intertwines, enveloping viewers in a sense of calm, tranquility, and wonder.
Additionally, the exhibition features landscapes stretching from the Washington coast to the majestic Cascades, as well as depictions of various terrains explored by Nancy in Arizona, Oregon, and Wyoming through her hikes and travels.
"Yellowstone Aspens", Oil on Linen, 11x14, $900
Students will assemble an 11x60” pre-dyed with Logwood, silk charmeuse scarf using fresh leaves. Logwood is a natural dye that has a wonderful blue/purple color. This process also requires a cotton scarf giving you TWO scarves by the time we are finished. Plant material will PRINT onto the fabric.

Ice Method Tie-Dye Workshop
This method produces stunning water color effect results. The fabric is soaked in soda ash, tied and placed on a screen. Next the ice is piled in a thick layer on top of the fabric. Powder pigments are sprinkled on top of the ice, as the ice melts, the pigments are deposited onto the fabric. As you can imagine, the melting ice carries the dye in different directions and the outcome is really cool!!! I would say much more so than using liquid dye! I have experimented with some interesting ways to tie, fold and use random objects to make patterns on the fabric.
Each person will have a set of three cotton flour sack towels to work with during the class. We will tie, soak and then place on the screen. We will cover them with ice and then the powder pigments. I will sure to choose a bright springy color palate for your designs!
The ice will need 24 hours to melt, I will gather, untie and launder the towels and message you all for pick up!
I have made towels and have used them for years with little fading and no bleeding! Here are a few photos of things I have made recently!
